Who builds it

The person building it has done this at scale

Fifteen years of making large systems fast and keeping them up. Core Web Vitals a year before Google made them a ranking factor. Incidents at three in the morning. Cloud bills cut by seven figures.

None of that is a flourish on a small site. It's why yours loads on a rural connection, passes accessibility without a remediation project later, and sends email that arrives. You work with that person directly, start to finish.

Who you'd be working with

  • Built once, properly The foundation is the same on a one-page site as on a system with real traffic behind it.
  • No agency in the middle The person who scopes it is the person who builds it and the person who answers later.
  • It stays yours Domain, files, and accounts in your name from day one, whatever happens between us.

Where we work

Based in Morgantown, and we can come to you

Hitchpost is a West Virginia company, run out of Morgantown. Most of a website build happens over email and a couple of calls, and that suits people who would rather not schedule a meeting. When it is easier to sit down together, we can do that too.

We regularly work in person around north central West Virginia: Morgantown, Star City, Westover, Granville, Cheat Lake, Fairmont, Clarksburg, Bridgeport and Kingwood, and across the line into Uniontown and Waynesburg. Further out, and for clients anywhere else, we work remotely, which is how most of it gets done anyway.

The practical difference with someone local is not the code. It is that you can reach a person who knows your business, and that the person who answers is the person who built the site.

Always included

We charge for scope, not for quality

The usual model is a cheap build and a ladder of extras. Hosting is one line, getting found another, accessibility waits until someone complains. Each is modest alone; together they're most of what you pay.

Everything below is in every build we do, at $299 and at from $1,499 alike. Not generosity: this work lives in the foundation, so it costs the same on one page as on twenty.

The design itself

Layout, type, and color chosen for your business. We build around the brand you have, and say what's worth sorting first if you don't have one.

Speed

Phone, rural broadband, old laptop. The same work we do for much larger clients, by default rather than as a tuning package sold to you later.

Accessibility

Keyboard navigation, contrast that passes, labelled forms. Done as we build, which is the only time it's cheap. Our own statement shows the standard.

Findable

Semantic markup, structured data, sitemaps, metadata. A site search engines and AI assistants can read and quote. No monthly SEO retainer required.

Analytics that respect people

You see which pages get used. No cookie banner, no tracking pixel. Our privacy policy has the full table, including the two rows that say "none".

Email that arrives

The DNS records that keep your mail out of spam folders, set up right the first time.

If you need more

What changes the number

Some things take real hours every time. Those are quoted separately:

  • More pages. The clearest driver, and the easiest to estimate.
  • Help with the words. Most people have the information and hate writing it. Included from Explorer upward; below that, you bring the copy.
  • Content and search optimization. Researching what people search for, then shaping pages around it. Ongoing work, not groundwork.
  • Getting found locally. Google Business Profile, conversion tracking, a newsletter, a way to ask for reviews. Built once, they keep working.
  • A store, booking, or anything custom. Quoted after we've seen what it needs to do.

None of it has to happen up front. Add what you need when you need it, and pay whichever way suits:

  • Quoted into the build. Decided now, one invoice.
  • Invoiced on its own. Ask whenever; we bill the time it takes.
  • A small monthly retainer, if you ever want one. Either we watch it — monitoring, updates, someone who answers — or time set aside, a block of hours at a lower rate. Decided later, and never a subscription you sign up for now.

Not us, so you're not surprised: paid ads, social posting, week-to-week campaigns. That's daily work; we'll point you to someone who does it daily. Photography, video and brand are their own thing, below.

There isn't a monthly line

Most published cost guides put ongoing maintenance at $50 to $200 a month. Here is that same list, for a site we build.

Total cost over three years, by tier
What you needYear oneYear twoYear threeThree years
Wayfinderbe found $299$15$15 $329
Explorerexplain what you do $499$15$15 $529
Trailblazerengage your audience from $1,499$15$15 from $1,529

The only recurring cost is the domain, about $15 a year, paid to your registrar. Hosting, SSL, backups and uptime are $0 — a site this size sits inside a content network's free tier, and page views aren't billed however popular you get. If one outgrew it, the step up is about $5 a month.

Compare the numbers: a $40–60 monthly service plan over those same three years is $1,440 to $2,160after the build.

And if you'd rather someone kept an eye on it, we do that too — monitoring, backups, and a person who already knows your site. It's optional, priced separately, and never required to stay online. How ongoing support works.

This site runs on the same stack and we publish the numbers, in Build & Perform and Run & Operate.

When the website isn't the whole problem

The site is usually where we start, not where we stop

Most shops build the website and that is the end of what they can do. Everything below is work we already do, for businesses of all sizes.

Photography, video & brand

Stock photography looks like stock photography, and a rushed logo follows you around for years. Photos, video and live streaming, and brand design done by the same people building the site.

IT & networking

Computers, wifi, accounts, backups, and the machine nobody wants to touch. Practical support without a big-ticket managed contract.

Security & email

Email that reaches inboxes, DNS set up properly, and the basics that keep an account takeover from becoming your week.

Getting found

Beyond the groundwork every build includes: a Google Business Profile that's actually filled in, conversion tracking, and content shaped around what people search for.

When it has to stay up

If the site ever becomes the business — bookings, payments, real traffic — the reliability and performance work is the day job, not a stretch.

Everything else

Cloud, cost, data, developer tooling, fractional engineering leadership. Twenty-odd capabilities, one person to call about any of them.

Nonprofits

If you're a nonprofit, read this part

Two things that come up constantly and almost nobody mentions:

  • Accessibility is often fundable. If your grants carry Section 508 or WCAG obligations, that work can go into the proposal as a budgeted line. It comes out of the grant, not your operating budget. We can help you scope and word it.
  • Your appeals may be going to spam. Fundraising email landing in junk folders is expensive and invisible. It's usually a DNS record nobody set up, and it's fixable in an afternoon.

We keep a reduced rate for nonprofits and small organizations, and West Virginia has a lot of small ones doing serious work. If the number still doesn't work, say so. We'd rather hear your actual budget than have you quietly decide not to call.

More for nonprofits

How it works

Three steps, start to live

  1. 1

You tell us what it needs to do

A call or an email. Not a requirements document. If you have a site already, we look at it first and say straight out whether it needs replacing.

  2. 2

We scope it and quote it

A fixed price in writing before anything starts, and the revisions that go with your tier. If the work grows, you'll hear the new number before we start it, not after.

  3. 3

It goes live, and stays fast

We build it, put it on the cheap stack, and hand you the keys. Updates and monitoring are there if you want them.

Let's talk about it

Tell us what you need the site to do

Not what platform, not what features. Just what it needs to do for you. We'll come back with a plan and a price.
